The Series brings to mind the function of art in Africa; that art in Africa is made for a purpose and a specific function, and not art-for-the- art’s-sake. Similar to the Adinkra symbols (created by the Akan tribe of Ghana, West Africa), the Nkrombe series have a decorative function but also represent objects that encapsulate evocative messages conveying traditional wisdom, aspects of life, or the environment. They have distinct meanings, linked with the Ameru (of East Africa) proverbs and riddles in a generalized contemporary way. – from Anne Mwiti‘s Introduction to the Exhibition Catalog.

Galeria Konkret AR.T has the pleasure to invite you to its first public event: the AR exhibition of The Nkrombe Series by Anne Mwiti from Nairobi, Kenya – a series of works never exhibited before, either in the physical or in the hybrid space. Here you can watch an interview with the Artist.
The exhibition is curated by Bogna J. Gladden-Obidzińska from Warsaw, Poland, as part of her research in art appreciation in hybrid environments conducted in the framework of the CAPHE project.
The Nkrombe Series will be open for viewing in the Galeria Konkret AR.T spatial.io from 08.Dec.2023. The opening event with the (hybrid) presence of the Artist will take place on the 8th of December 2023 at 18:00 GMT.
